Cast a Line at Cape Henlopen State Park
A trip to the Delaware Beaches offers plenty of opportunities for a fishing excursion. Anglers have their choice of fishing from a boat, in the surf or off a pier. When you want to fish in Rehoboth Beach or Lewes, head to Cape Henlopen State Park.
Fishing at Cape Henlopen State Park
Cape Henlopen State Park offers anglers both saltwater and surf fishing.
The quarter-mile-long pier provides access to the Delaware Bay. There’s even a bait and tackle shop off the pier where you can find all of your fishing necessities, as well as purchase licenses and snack foods, from April 1 through Oct. 31.
Surf fishing is popular year-round at Cape Henlopen State Park. The park is situated right along the Atlantic Ocean. There are dune crossovers that allow both vehicles and pedestrians to get to the beach’s designated fishing areas. A surf fishing vehicle license is permitted to drive on the beach.
A portion of the beachfront at the Beach Plum Island Nature Preserve also permits surf fishing, however much of the preserve is off limits to pedestrians.
Anglers have reeled in croaker, spot, weakfish, snapper, bluefish, porgies, pinfish, sand perch, dogfish, flounder and even small cobia when they fish at Cape Henlopen State Park.
